Event: Martin Crimp's In the Republic of Happiness
Location: Royal Court Theatre, SW1
The Royal Court Theatre’s Christmas production this year is Martin Crimp’s In the Republic of Happiness, which is directed by outgoing artistic director of the Royal Court, Dominic Cooke.
The play is described as a violent satire on modern obsessions, about a family Christmas interrupted by the unexpected arrival of a relative, Uncle Bob, and his wife, who stays in the car. It appears that Uncle Bob’s visit is not one filled with good Christmas cheer.
The cast includes Anna Calder-Marshall, Emma Fielding, Stuart McQuarrie and Paul Ready as Uncle Bob.
Martin Crimp’s last play at the Royal Court was The City in 2008; he has had a number of his plays performed at the theatre. His last London show was his translation of Big and Small starring Cate Blanchett, performed at the Barbican in 2012.
