Event: British Military Tournament at Earl’s Court
Location: Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre, SW5
The British Military Tournament is a pageant celebrating Britain’s armed forces, famous for its displays of horsemanship, military skill and pageantry. This year the tournament is celebrating the life of Her Majesty the Queen as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and is due to be attended by Prince William on 9th Dec.
The show will start in 1926, the year of the Queen’s birth, and will tell the story of Britain’s Army, Navy and Air Force over the years up to and including the current engagement in Afghanistan.
There are over 600 participants and 150 horses in the display, which includes the famous Field Gun Run, featuring two teams competing to transport heavy artillery parts over an obstacle course. Other favourites include the Massed Bands, the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery and the musical ride of the Household Cavalry.
There will also be a battle re-enactment of a bomb disposal in Afghanistan by the Royal Logistic Corps and the largest massed bagpipe band seen at Earl’s Court since the Second World War.
