Event: Much Ado About Nothing starring Vanessa Redgrave
Location: Old Vic Theatre, SE1
Vanessa Redgrave and James Earl Jones are reuniting on stage for Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at the Old Vic this autumn.
The pair last co-starred in Driving Miss Daisy in the West End and on Broadway. In Much Ado they play the reluctant lovers Beatrice and Benedick, roles traditionally played by actors half their age.
The play is directed by Mark Rylance, the actor and former artistic director at the Globe Theatre, best known in recent years for his performances in Jez Butterworth’s play Jerusalem at the Royal Court Theatre and in the Globe’s all male productions of Richard III and Twelfth Night.
The Old Vic is one of London’s most historic theatres, playing host to generations of stars from John Gielgud, Laurence Olivier, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench to its current artistic director Kevin Spacey (celebrating his 10th anniversary in the role this year).
Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing is on at the Old Vic on The Cut near Waterloo from 7 Sep to 16 Nov 2013. Matinee performances are on Saturdays and most Wednesdays.
