Event: Emil and the Detectives by Erich Kastner
Location: National Theatre, SE1
The National Theatre is bringing the 1920s children’s story Emil and the Detectives to life over the Christmas period, adapting Erich Kastner’s German classic for the stage in a new production on at the NT’s Olivier Theatre.
Emil is sent on an errand by his mother to take some money to his grandmother in Berlin. On the train he meets a mysterious stranger who steals his money while he’s asleep. Having lost everything he tries to track down the thief, and with the help of some new young friends (the detectives), he is set for a great adventure.
Other children’s shows on over Christmas include: Slava’s Snowshow returning for the third year at the Royal Festival Hall, SE1 (17 Dec-6 Jan for ages 8+), The Gruffalo at the Lyric Theatre, W1 (20 Nov-12 Jan for ages 3+); and Cinderella: A Fairytale at the Unicorn Theatre, SE1 (26 Nov-5 Jan for ages 6+).
Emil and the Detectives is on at the National Theatre near Waterloo, with previews from 16 Nov, running until 20 Feb 2014. Suitable for ages 7+.
