    • Sommelier’s Table

      It is a delicious secret in Mayfair that, beneath our legendary kitchens, the Connaught has a cool, limestone cellar that houses 6,000 vintage wines of impeccable provenance.

      Overlooking it is the Sommelier’s Table, an intimate, atmospheric dining room which accommodates up to eight guests for a private lunch or dinner. This is an occasion with a difference, representing a journey of discovery into wines and a unique collaboration between chef, sommelier and guest.

      Hosts are invited to discuss their choice of wines in advance with head sommelier Mirko Benzo: usually four wines for a lunch and six or seven for a dinner.

      An exquisite menu is then designed by our two Michelin-starred chef Hélène Darroze, each course perfectly balanced to complement its accompanying wine.

      Guests are not told the identity of the wine in advance, and this blind tasting focuses the concentration on its taste, nose and harmony with the food – unconstrained by preconceptions relating to region, vintage or value. At the end of each course, the wine is revealed.  

      Guests are invited to sign the visitors’ book before departing, and take away a small bottle of Armagnac and a canelé (little cake) from Bordeaux.

    Your menu will be based on immaculately curated, seasonal produce, turned into culinary art with passion and precision by our award-winning chef Hélène Darroze. Hélène has two Michelin stars and was named Veuve Clicquot World’s Best Female Chef of 2015.

    Our head sommelier Mirko Benzo, responsible for the wine cellar, pre-tastes all the wines to ensure they are the perfect temperature, decanted if necessary. He is available throughout the event to describe the wine and food pairings.



    How many People?

    • Lunch at the Sommelier’s Table is for a minimum of six guests. Dinner is for up to eight guests.

    Our Cellar & Chef lunches each reflect the wine regions that have inspired our two Michelin star French chef, Hélène Darroze, and are perfect for business lunches, celebrations or an informative wine experience.
    Between 6 and 8 guests will enjoy a gourmet lunch menu which uses seasonal ingredients and is matched to an imaginative selection of wines presented by the Head Sommelier.

    The Cellar & Chef Lunches are available for lunchtime bookings Tuesday to Friday and are priced at £150 per person (including four-course menu, wine, VAT).

    Following an initial consultation with the host, the Head Sommelier will devise a tailor-made selection of wines which are then presented to Hélène Darroze and her team to create a 6-courses tasting menu.

    The Sommelier Table Dinner is perfect for a business supper, social occasion or informative wine and dine experience.
    Guests will be personally escorted to the wine cellar and given a tour by the Head Sommelier, followed by optional cocktails and canapés. Lunch or dinner is then served by the sommelier and chef, who will explain the background to their choice of food and wines. Guests depart with a special gift to remind them of their unique and exclusive experience.
    The cost of the experience is £150 per person for dinner inclusive of room reservation and chef`s tasting menu, with an optional canapé reception at £15 per person. There is a minimum charge based on 8 guests. The chef creates the menu to accommodate the number of guests in the party. The wines are an additional cost.
