The inspiration for the Eagle’s Lodge
Designer Guy Oliver based this suite on his childhood daydreams of life aboard a luxury yacht.
While on holiday as a boy in Villefranche-sur-Mer, Oliver stayed in an attic room –fitted out like a ship’s cabin with not an inch of space wasted.
To Oliver, the room was a paradise. Sitting in his “eagle’s nest”, he watched the boats in the harbour, sailing down from nearby Monte Carlo – and of course, he imagined himself as the captain of his own luxurious yacht.
The memory of this quiet room, high above the world and surrounded by the peaceful ocean, stayed with Oliver all his life – and formed his inspiration for the Eagle’s Lodge at the Connaught.
