Earning MilesTo make a booking and ensure you earn AAdvantage® miles:
Learn more about AAdvantageThe AAdvantage Travel Awards Program – the original travel awards program – was initially designed to reward frequent flyers of American Airlines. Complete details of the AAdvantage program are available online at www.aa.com/aadvantage.
The AAdvantage program began in 1981 with 283,000 members and currently has more than 50 million members worldwide, making it the largest travel awards program.
AAdvantage members earn mileage credits by flying on American Airlines, American Eagle, AmericanConnection® carriers and oneworld carriers as well as other airline participants. Members also earn mileage credits by purchasing products/services from non-airline AAdvantage participant businesses including car rental and hotel companies; retailers; and telecommunication and financial service providers.
Miles earned from any of the AAdvantage program marketing participants are credited to the individual member’s AAdvantage account.
Members can earn miles at more than 1,500 participating companies, which include over 35 hotel chains representing more than 75 brands, more than 20 airlines, eight car rental companies, and approximately 25 major retail/financial companies. In addition, members can earn miles when making purchases with one of more than 60 affinity card products in 30 countries.
The AAdvantage program is much more than a frequent flyer program. About half of all miles earned are for products and services other than flying.
In 2004, AAdvantage members redeemed approximately 129 billion miles to claim in excess of 4 million awards.
Members can redeem accumulated miles for travel, upgrades and other special services. Currently there are more than 880 AAdvantage award destinations worldwide. Miles can be donated to the Miles For Kids In Need® program, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® or may be converted to Diners Club Reward Points. Miles may be used to pay for American Airlines VacationsSM packages and Admirals Club? membership/dues.
AAdvantage miles don’t expire as long as the member continues to have account activity every 36 months. Any account activity – including claiming award travel or earning miles from an AAdvantage program marketing participant – resets the expiration clock for all miles in the account for another three years.
Terms and ConditionsMiles will be earned per stay on any qualifying rate. All bookings are subject to availability, VAT at 17.5% and a discretionary 5% service charge. For terms and conditions relating to AAdvantage - please click here.
