Afternoon tea at Jean-Georges puts a playful, contemporary twist on this time-honoured British tradition. Allow us to whisk you away on a sensational journey through taste and texture in the heart of London – with a few unexpected surprises along the way.
From 14 November 2023 until 1 January 2024, we will be serving our Festive Afternoon Tea from £95 per person.
Jean-Georges at The Connaught sets a bright and lively scene for an afternoon tea with a twist. The experience begins the moment you step into this stylish neighbourhood restaurant in Mayfair. Curated art from Louise Bourgeois adorns the walls and floor to ceiling windows, with their stained-glass accents by Jean-Michel Othoniel, give you the perfect vantage point to watch the world of Mayfair go by. Then, it’s time to open the menu – its playful illustrations by Jean Jullien hinting at the bold flavours and witty surprises soon to unfold…
A fusion of flavours
Begin your taste adventure as you discover a selection of exotic teas – or, a glass of champagne, if you want to add some sparkle to the afternoon. Then it’s on to the finger sandwiches, where classic British combinations meet Jean-Georges’ passion for bold South East-Asian flavours. Think cucumber with a hint of mint, oak smoked salmon, and turkey and tandoori yoghurt in Mediterranean bread, all home-made daily.
For a touch of tradition, our cakes are accompanied by English scones prepared to a time-honoured recipe. These are served warm from the oven, ready for spreading with Cornish clotted cream and homemade strawberry jam.
Take a Sip
Few sounds are more reminiscent than freshly-brewed tea being poured into a china cup. But what are you in the mood for? Keep things traditional with fragrant black teas such as Earl Grey, Darjeeling and Assam. Or explore our artisan green teas from small plantations in Japan and China, such as fuji-yama, jasmine pearls and the subtle vanilla tones of Thé à l’Opéra. And if you like your tea soothingly theine-free, there is fresh mint, chamomile, canorino or mild, flowery rooibos red to enjoy.
Make a reservation
It’s said we eat first with our eyes – and our cake stand full of bright and beautifully decorated pâtisseries is a visual feast. Our picture-perfect cakes are carefully designed to celebrate seasonal flavours, such as hazelnut praliné rocher, matcha choux with cherry jam, and a strawberry tart finished with almond frangipane and vanilla curd. Topping it all off is a playful chocolate fondue with strawberries for dipping. Each item is delicately handcrafted by our team of pâtissiers.
