The King’s Lodge

To step into The King’s Lodge is to step into another time – a world away from the bustle of Mayfair. In a rich tapestry of cultures and craft, this is a space dedicated to ancient history and time-honoured practices, where each bespoke element has a story to tell.

Against a palette of deep reds, terracotta and gold, intricate details and lavish textiles unfold. Mughal-inspired design sets a majestic tone, with Guy Oliver’s creative vision brought to life by artisans from Jordan to Afghanistan. Stretch out in the dappled light from Helen Whittaker’s stained-glass or soak it all up in the stately marble bathroom, with its exquisitely carved panels.

STITCHES IN TIME

Textiles here are a tactile homage to craft, from handmade Afghan carpets to carefully sourced fabrics from Myanmar. Striking zig-zag motifs take their cue from chevroned Mughal columns, woven through with jewel-box tones inspired by the materials of Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art.

TRADITION IN THE FRAME

Miniature, but no less magnificent, a curation of exquisite paintings from Afghanistan dot the space – bringing another dimension to The Connaught’s art of living well.
