Our guide to the perfect Weekend in London

26 May 2025

Sometimes more is simply more. Whether taking advantage of summer’s joyful bank holiday weekends or extending a city break with an invitation to Stay Four Longer, an extra 24 hours in London is a little like a free pass to relax, explore, stroll, swim, shop… After all, the capital is a goldmine of must-do activities. With the gift of time in hand, here’s how to plan the perfect long weekend in London.

Mayfair mornings

Days begin in the sweetest way with breakfast at Nicolas Rouzaud at The Connaught. Home to one of the most fêted master pâtissiers in Europe, menus here elevate French classics with bold creativity – Rouzaud’s Trio au Chocolat is a must-try. With the Patisserie’s blush pink and marble interiors creating a gallery-like space, the most important meal of the day becomes the most elegant.

From here, it’s just a short walk to Hyde Park, arguably London’s most celebrated Royal Park. Less well-known, however, are the stables that offer morning horse rides from Mayfair’s tucked-away mews. Winding across Rotten Row and around the Serpentine Lake, this has been a celebrated equestrian route for more than three centuries.

Swap reins for reigns at Buckingham Palace, a nearby neighbour of The Connaught. The newly unveiled east wing opens a window to the iconic royal balcony, while the Changing of the Guard is something of an institution, taking place from 11am each Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday – weather permitting. Many climb the steps of the Victoria Memorial for a good vantage point, though it’s best to arrive early to secure a spot.

A cut above

Sartorial strolls across Mayfair could bring you to Bond Street’s boutiques and Savile Row, the epicentre of British tailoring. Close to The Connaught, world-renowned couturiers have also found a home on Mount Street – from Carolina Herrera and Christian Louboutin to Lanvin and Balmain. Rubbing shoulders with these fashion icons is a curated collection of art galleries, including Maddox, David Zwirner on Hay Hill and Savile Row’s Hauser & Wirth. Or loop back to the Serpentine Gallery for an evolving programme of public art, exhibitions and events, centred around the Pavilion.

When it comes to culinary creativity, Jean-Georges at The Connaught delivers. Light streams through the windows-for-walls, illuminating each dish as it’s served. Lunches here celebrate global flavours, with a capital spin, as ingredients bring daily market finds to the table. Long leisurely weekends are the ideal time to share the signature black truffle pizza, best enjoyed overlooking Mount Street – or out on the alfresco terrace.

Go with the flow

‘Messing about on the river’ is a weekend rite of passage in London, particularly for families. A luxury Thames River cruise offers a fresh perspective on the city’s most famous landmarks, with The Connaught Concierges on call for tickets and sailing times. For those who prefer to stay on dry land, the banks of the Thames come to life over the summer months, and the Southbank Centre is set to host an array of family-friendly events this season – from a recycled playground to a delightful take on Moominvalley.

Inspiring journeys also begin at The British Museum, where treasures span continents, cultures and two million years. Explore the permanent collection – from the Aztecs to Assyrian icons, the Rosetta Stone to modern works by Grayson Perry. Or head to Edo Japan via the museum’s newly opened Hiroshige exhibition.

Spa serenity

For those who see weekends as an invitation to unwind from the daily grind, Aman Spa is a world away from the everyday. A landmark space and the first of its kind outside a resort, here tailored treatment rituals are grounded in wellness. Or simply soak up the serenity of the centrepiece swimming pool, cast in striking black granite. After capital strolls, it’s the perfect place to relax and restore the senses.

A Taste of the Season

From croissant o’clock to Martini hour, Maybourne’s London hotels are home to an inspiring menu of culinary experiences. Savour fire and flavour at The Connaught Grill, before heading to neighbouring Claridge’s for golden-age cocktails in The Fumoir. Dine in deco at Claridge’s Restaurant or hop over to nearby The Berkeley for La Môme London. Featuring an idyllic terrace, this renowned restaurant brings a dash of Riviera charm to Knightsbridge – perfect for long summer evenings.

The grandest finale

As the sun dips, the West End lights up, with The Connaught a short chauffeur-driven ride from London’s theatre district – and other iconic venues. Catch contemporary spins on classics at the Royal Opera House, or the Royal Albert Hall’s Films in Concert series. From Fiddler on the Roof to The Great Gatsby, Olivier and Tony Award-winning plays are peppered across the capital, with The Connaught Concierges often able to secure tickets to sold-out shows.
